The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is an educational framework offered internationally, focusing on children from the age of 3 to 12 and developing their academics alongside nurturing their personal development as well as global citizenship.
During the PYP studies, children’s innate curiosity and creativity are empowered to help shape a better world through inquiry-based learning due to reflecting on bold questions and meaningful discoveries.
The PYP is based on five essential elements: knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and action, which are integrated toward achieving a more rich and holistic education. These foster the foundation for a rigorous curriculum aimed at preparing students for the multifaceted challenges of life, enabling them to excel in advanced studies, career opportunities, and become active contributors to society.
The PYP encourages students to investigate six universally relevant themes that cut across subject areas, provoking explorations of the world’s most intriguing questions:
Sharing the Planet – Reflecting on our role in an interdependent world.
How We Organize Ourselves – Studying systems, communities, and structures in our lives.
Who We Are – Discovering identity, relationships, and what it means to be human.
Where We Are in Place and Time – Exploring our histories, journeys, and connections.
How We Express Ourselves – Uncovering the numerous ways we express thoughts, feelings, and creativity.
How the World Works – Exploring scientific and technological principles that govern our world.
These themes serve as the foundation for a Programme of Inquiry—a rich tapestry of explorations that encourage students to think critically, work collaboratively, and act with compassion.
